Description from the seller

Bronze reproduction of the Pompeian Silenus.

Famous bronze sculpture created from a cast and faithfully elaborated on the original piece housed in the National Museum of Naples.

The spirit of the grape pressing dance. Our reproduction was made from a mold of the original by an Italian foundry from the late 20th century.

The statue was discovered in Pompeii on May 2, 1864, and has since been housed in the Archaeological Museum of Naples. The sculpture, which measures 62 cm, depicts a satyr raising a serpent above its head, intending to throw it to the ground.

The sculpture has a typically archaeological patina, and it is depicted with meticulous detail, including the sandals and the vine shoots among the hair of the sileno.

In the years following its discovery, the statue became very famous, turning into a cult object for travelers on the Grand Tour in Italy.
