Two-item lot of a lunar meteorite named Meteorito lunar, a feldspathic breccia from Bechar, Algeria (Bechar 003), weighing 0.9 g.
Description from the seller
Object: Feldspathic lunar meteorite
Official classification: Bechar 003
Place of discovery: Algeria
Year of discovery: 2022
Weight: 0.9 g
This specimen is a feldspathic lunar meteorite officially classified as Bechar 003, of lunar origin, found in Algeria in 2022. Despite its small size, it constitutes an authentic fragment of the lunar crust, mainly composed of plagioclase-rich feldspar, characteristic of anorthositic lunar materials.
The surface features a clear matrix, with shades of gray to whitish tones, with terrestrial alterations in the form of reddish-brown spots, consistent with a recovered specimen buried underground. Due to this type of find, the piece does not retain fusion crust, which is a natural and common condition in meteorites extracted from the subsurface.
The fragment shows an irregular, angular shape, with natural fractures, slightly worn edges, and visible microcracks. The texture is rough and non-homogeneous, with areas where the interior of the meteorite is exposed. These features are considered natural defects, resulting from ejection processes from the lunar surface, prolonged burial, and subsequent extraction, without human intervention.
The piece has not been polished, restored, or subjected to any artificial treatment.
Overall, this is an authentic and well-documented lunar meteorite, of interest to specialized collectors and scientific study, which clearly preserves the traces of its extraterrestrial origin and the natural conditions of its recovery.
