Description from the seller

Incineratio mortalis, that is, funeral sermons, compiled into five books from various authors, collected and suitable for all worldly people, as well as those contemptuous of the world, and especially useful for preachers. By the most reverend author Dr. Georgio Bartholdo Pontano à Braitenberg... For what else is contained in this work, see page fifteen. Cologne, Agrippinae, published by Antonius Hieratus, in the year 1611. Pages (38), 840, 170; size 21.5 x 16.5 cm. The binding is contemporary, entirely in parchment, somewhat stained and with damage to the spine. The title is faded and illegible on the spine. The pages are sometimes browned and stained, but not heavily. A large and solid copy, divided into two parts, each with its own frontispiece. The second part is titled 'Breviarium concionatorum sive sermones breves...' An important and uncommon work on funeral rites. The themes cover not only various ceremonies but also the brevity of life, common evils, suffering, and above all, death and the human perspective on it.
