Description from the seller
Bronze Taurus Ashtray by Max Le Verrier signed from the Zodiac series
Referenced in the artist's commercial catalog No. 536.
Max Le Verrier's comment on this catalog:
Symbols of the twelve constellations occupying the equal zones of the sky that the sun appears to traverse in a year. The depiction of the Zodiac signs dates back to ancient times and can be found in all civilizations (Egypt, India, Pre-Columbian Mexico, Greek and Roman monuments and coins). On many portals of Gothic cathedrals: Amiens, Chartres, Senlis, Saint-Denis, they form, alternated with the work of the months, one of the decorative elements.
Diameter: 11 cm
Golden patina and antique green
I am adding this charming, finely chiseled candle holder with gilded and matte finishes, made of copper and brass.
In good condition
I am offering the digitized original catalog in PDF format from the early 1960s, which includes, among other things, this series available upon request. A page from the series is presented here as an illustration.
If you wish, many new insights into the life and work of this fabulous artist, who is surely the one who democratized and made accessible to the humble the Art Deco.
Collectors and Art Deco enthusiasts, especially fans of Max Le Verrier's creations, follow my sales! I am parting with some of my collection, and other items from this series will be offered.
Fast and careful shipping
