The subject faithfully reproduces one of the greatest masterpieces of neoclassical sculpture, created by Antonio Canova between 1804 and 1806.

The work translates into patinated plaster the formal purity and compositional balance typical of Canova: Perseus's body is idealized, harmonious, built on a perfect balance of weights, while Medusa's head introduces a dramatic tension that emphasizes the contrast between beauty and horror.
