This monograph traces the first fifty years of the colonization of the Congo by Belgium under the leadership of King Léopold II, who considered and administered this country as his personal property.
The book therefore presents a skewed view of the reality of colonization and the atrocities committed by the Belgian colonists, only recalling the events that took place during which hundreds of Belgians lost their lives (fights, disease, etc.).
Around 1900, the actions of the colonists were already described as 'crimes against humanity,' but this book written in 1930/31 makes no mention of it, yet it still holds value as a historical document.
