In-8.1 front., 2 ff. n. chiff. [half-title, title], xvi pp. [notes, life of Rabelais, Rabelais's key], + 3 plates, 479 pp. [Gargantua, Pantagruel, tables] + 34 plates.
Illustrated edition adorned with numerous copper engravings, including folding plates (view of the Devinière in Chinon, map of Chinonais, allegorical scenes). Frontispiece engraved with a portrait of Rabelais. Text including Gargantua and Pantagruel (books I and II). Concluding as per: 'End of the second Book and of the first Volume.'
Vintage green morocco leather, smooth back decorated with small gold tools, gold title.
Interior with scattered foxing. Fold-out plates present, showing wear and small marginal losses without significant impact on the engraving.
A good copy, complete for the volume, of a sought-after illustrated edition of Rabelais.
