Maurice Lemaître (1929–2018)
A discreet yet prolific French painter, Maurice Lemaître established himself through a body of work deeply connected to rural landscapes and provincial atmospheres. Born in 1929, he developed a sensitive eye for the light of the French countryside early on, which he expressed through warm figurative painting attentive to the seasons, villages, and peaceful horizons.
His work, widely represented in public sales, demonstrates a great stylistic consistency: balanced compositions, soft colors, serene scenes featuring orchards, ponds, tree-lined paths, or views of villages in Île-de-France, Brittany, or Pas-de-Calais. Lemaître paints with sincere simplicity, favoring straightforward emotion and the everyday beauty of the places.
Deceased in 2018, he left behind an extensive body of work, sought after for its timeless charm and ability to capture the soul of French landscapes. His paintings, often small or medium-sized, continue to circulate actively on the market, demonstrating collectors' enduring attachment to this authentic and luminous painting style.
