You are bidding on a very fine old french 4/4 violin, labeled Fait par Paul Lebreton a Paris MDCCCCVI PLebreton. The instrument is in good condition with some small old repaired cracks. Good rosewood set up, new strings and new bridge.
The violin has an excellent high grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of strongly flamed maple with matched scroll. The purfling is professionally executed and the edges are masterfully done. The original varnish of golden amber color remains in good condition. The whole length of the violin is 602 mm and the back 365 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 164 mm; middle bouts: 114 mm; lower bouts: 210 mm.
