Malgorzata Oleszkiewicz presents an original 2025 acrylic/mixed media painting titled Between Presence and Absence, XL (2025), a unique, hand-signed work on canvas (110 cm by 75 cm) with edges painted, varnished, and a certificate of authenticity, sold direct from the artist and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
The painting depicts a solitary female figure moving through a space constructed from clearly defined geometric color planes. While the figure remains recognizable, the surrounding environment gradually shifts toward abstraction, evoking architectural structures or a mental mapping of space. The dominant red of the dress contrasts with a restrained palette of pinks, burgundy, teal, and ochre, creating tension between bodily presence and its spatial context.
The composition operates at the intersection of figuration and abstraction. Space does not function as a literal setting but rather as a carrier of psychological or perceptual states. A secondary, barely articulated figure appears in the background, functioning more as a trace or echo than as a fully formed character. This subtle presence introduces themes of distance, memory, and internal dialogue.
The work aligns with contemporary approaches to figurative painting in which the human figure remains central but does not dictate a narrative. Instead, meaning emerges through the relationships between color, spatial structure, and bodily presence. The painting emphasizes ambiguity and tension over explicit storytelling.
The artwork functions effectively within a gallery context as well as in minimalist interiors, maintaining strong visual autonomy. It is a unique, original painting by the artist.
The artwork is varnished, ensuring colour depth and surface protection. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corner. The edges of the canvas are painted, allowing the artwork to be displayed without framing. A certificate of authenticity signed by the artist is included with the artwork.
