Two American editions of Don Quixote, illustrated by Schoff, by Miguel de Cervantes, in English, 424 pages, dating from 1848 and 1852, in good condition.
Description from the seller
1.- The History of Don Quixote de la Mancha. From the Spanish of Cervantes. With illustrations by Schoff. Hartford: Silas Andrus & Son, 1852.
[i-v], vi-viii, 1-424 pp. Frontis and engraved title-page with illustrations by Schoff. 23.5 x 15,5 cm. Red cloth with gold lettering and gold and impressed decorations. Identical to the 1848 edition by Cornish Lamport, including identical cover lettering and decorations. The half-title is bound after the title-page, and the engraved title-page has the imprint “S. Andrus & Son, Hartford". The translation is an abridged version of that by Peter Motteux. The frontispiece and the illustrations on the title-page are from designs by Warren and identical to those in the London versions, but here engraved by S.A. Schoff. Spine title “Don Quixote Illustrated”. Issues of this version dated 1851 and 1855 recorded by Biblioteca Nacional. [Ashbee 410, Rius 689, Suñé 427, Icon457]. Foxing throughout.

Identical to the edition by Peirce, Boston but on larger paper. The engraved title-page has the imprint “ New York, Nafis and Cornish". The translation is an abridged version of that by Peter Motteux. The frontispiece and the illustrations on the title-page are from designs by Warren and identical to those in the London versions, but here engraved by S.A. Schoff. Spine title “Don Quixoten Illustrated”. [Ashbee 410, Rius689, Suñé 427, Icon457]. Inscribed on flyleaf “John M. Millikin, Decr 25th 1852”. Covers worn, binding loose.
