Description from the seller

Besides a nod to an old song by the band B-52s, the title of this work evokes the volcanic stone in which this female figure seems to have been carved, a lava still a little red although hardened by time. It is this rugged lava that dominates over the shape of the body, as if the latter were imprisoned within a volcanic shell: the mineral matter is stronger than the life it has absorbed.

This piece is created using mixed media on canvas, combining photography, digital composition, and acrylic painting (with numerous layers of glazes and transparent relief squares that give the canvas a glossy appearance). It is a unique work, framed in black (overall dimensions: approximately 45 x 55 x 3.5 cm).

This is a unique piece, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity (COA). The painting will be shipped flat in reinforced packaging.

Seller's Story

Georges Dumas is a plastic photographer, he exhibits and sells his works in France and Europe since 2007 through gallery exhibitions, shows and fairs, as well as several online galleries. For more than 15 years, he has been creating mixed media works that he calls paintographies. These are paintings generally made on canvas that combine photography, digital composition and acrylic glazes, each time unique pieces. The human figure is the almost exclusive subject of these works, with an important place given to the nude and the drapery, in line with the statuary of Antiquity and the Renaissance. The crossing of techniques such as the importance given to mineral materials which replace the flesh of the models make the paintographies unclassifiable works, both classic and contemporary, familiar and strange, on the borders of painting, sculpture and photography, in an aesthetic of freezing and petrification which justifies that we can speak of virtual sculpture. In 2021, Georges Dumas released "Corps du Temps", his first monograph with Éléphant Corridor editions. He regularly writes texts on other artists and gives conferences on visual photography, in particular on the Transfiguring movement which he founded in 2014.
