Javier Calleja was born in 1971 in Malaga, where he lives and works today.
Over the years, Calleja has worked with drawings, installations, sculptures, and paintings, often playing with scale and perspective in his presentations. Working on both small and large scales, his installations regularly focused on engaging the viewer as an important part of the work.

After touring Spain and the rest of Europe, it was his debut with Aisho Nanzuka in Hong Kong that marked his first appearance with his boys with large eyes. Originally conceived as visual representations of the artist's own feelings and experiences, they have become his unmistakable signature. Over the years, the characters have evolved from drawings and paintings into sculptures and objects, almost exclusively depicting a boy at the transitional age between childhood and adolescence. With oversized, tearful eyes and a subtle touch of red blush, Calleja's characters are little heroes who have just overcome something painful and are about to smile again after crying.
Javier continues collaborations around the world, including with Casio, Mikati, Art Basel, Lladro, Vans, Almine Rech, and Rolls-Royce.
He is becoming one of the leading figures in contemporary art and street art, on par with his friends and peers such as Shepard Fairey (Obey), Kaws, Edgar Plans, Imbue, Malot, Hirst, Banksy, Invader, Takeru, Murakami, JR, Jonone, Saraiva, Futura, Koons, and others... His reputation continues to grow, reaching nearly 1.6 million euros at the end of 2021 during an auction for a piece.
