Beautiful chess or checkers clock... made by Ruhla in East Germany.. GDR
In excellent condition; runs perfectly... everything original.
Buttons and wings present... without rust on the back plate.
Beautiful example of beechwood... dial plate made of light beechwood.
Winding mechanism is excellent.

The tradition of Ruhla watchmaking dates back to 1890, the year in which the first watches were built by Gebroeders Thiele - Uhren und Maschienfabrik - Ruhla.

De Gardé chess clocks were first used at the Chess Olympiad in Leipzig in 1960 and have since also been the official tournament clock at world championships, including Karpov – Kasparov and the PCA rematch between Kasparov and Short in 1993 in London. Afterwards, the digital clock made its debut on the World Championship podium.
