Description from the seller
Manifesto of the illusionism and spiritism show titled 'Die schwarze Maske,' produced in the German-speaking area between the late 19th and early 20th century (circa 1900–1915).
Measures 63 x 45 cm
This poster is a later edition, probably from the 1970s.
The poster advertises the Fata Morgana attraction, which at the time was described as 'the most astonishing illusion of the present,' with references to illusionism, spiritism, magic, and somnambulism—topics that were extremely popular in theaters and traveling shows of the era.
The iconography is of extraordinary visual power: a hooded figure with a black mask, a skull with crossed bones, and ritual candles—elements that make this poster one of the best examples of esoteric and theatrical graphics from the early twentieth century. The composition and colors anticipate expressionist aesthetics and European occult imagery.
