Rare original edition of the historical-artistic work dedicated to Mantova by the renowned Mantuan scholar and academic. The work, divided into two Discourses, discusses the lives and works of authors and artists active in Mantova from 1000 to 1500 (First Discourse) and from 1500 to 1600 (Second Discourse). It includes an extensive dissertation on the Gonzaga family and the question of Mantegna's Mantuan origin. Finally, a poem in unrhymed hendecasyllables dedicated to Mantova. Bound in rustic, multicolored cardboard from the period. Medal with engraved portrait on the front and back at the title page. Dimensions 27x20 cm, VI, 2nn, 167 pages. Excellent condition.
