AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A beautiful work by Cornelis Koning, an artist who created his own world—detached from the rush and noise of the twentieth century. In this tranquil landscape, where cows lazily continue their way along a tree-lined path, unfolds Koning's characteristic blend of reality and dream. The red house, half-hidden behind the ivy, breathes the melancholy of the passing, while the diffuse light envelops the scene in a gentle glow.

Koning, praised for his inner richness and technical mastery, developed a unique visual language in his later years: sober in color but warm in feeling. His work was celebrated as a point of calm for those receptive to reflection and tenderness. This canvas is a striking example of that—a painting that does not shout but whispers.

A masterful piece for the collector seeking authenticity, stillness, and the poetic power of the everyday.

In an original, richly decorated list with floral motifs.

Cornelis Koning (Zaandijk, July 10, 1893 – Amsterdam, December 1, 1951), visual artist, painter, draftsman, etcher, and also a sculptor. After taking painting lessons from Frederik Engel, Cornelis Koning was educated at the State School for Applied Arts and the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam and was a student of, among others, Antoon Derkinderen and Van der Waay.

He lived and worked in Laren, Breukelen, Heemskerk, Ede, and from 1935 in Amsterdam. He became known for landscapes, portraits, and animal and figure studies. Koning painted figures and landscapes and was a member of the society 'Arti et Amicitiae,' where he regularly exhibited.

In reviews, there are repeated references to his kinship with other Zaan region painters, such as Cor Dik, Jaap Kaal, Arie van Mever, and Wim Steijn.
