Antique silver brooch weighing 13.6 g, with natural emeralds at the edges and an iridescent mother‑of‑pearl plaque featuring Madonna Aparecida, originating from Spain and dated to circa 1850–1900, in good condition with signs of wear; no laboratory report.
Description from the seller
A finely crafted silver brooch, attributable to the full 19th century, when goldsmithing art combined technical mastery, religious devotion, and symbolic value.
The structure, with horizontal development, is enclosed by a richly chased frame featuring floral motifs and romantic-style scrolls. Along the sides and at the corners, natural emeralds with an intense, deep green hue are set, chosen not only for their preciousness but also for the strong symbolic value they held in the 19th century: a symbol of hope, renewal, and eternal faith. The gemstones, skillfully cut, harmoniously complement the subdued shine of silver, giving the brooch an aura of solemnity and prestige.
In the center stands a large iridescent mother-of-pearl slab, whose shimmering surface creates a delicate play of light. Carved in refined relief on it is the Madonna Aparecida, depicted according to traditional iconography: the wide, triangular mantle, richly decorated, envelops the figure with regal composure, conveying a sense of protection and sanctity.
In the 19th-century context, such a brooch was not merely an ornament but a true devotional and identity object. Worn on the chest, it served as a tangible sign of faith and trust in the Virgin, as well as a symbol of status and refinement. It is plausible that it was intended for a woman with high religious sensitivity or given as a precious ex-voto, perhaps linked to a pilgrimage or a grace received.
Overall, the pin is a rare testimony of 19th-century sacred goldsmithing, where chased silver, iridescent mother-of-pearl, and the nobility of emeralds blend into an object of intense beauty, profound spiritual meaning, and historical value.
The silver structure has been tested with acid.
The stones identified as emeralds have not been tested for our attribution.
Accurate and tracked shipping in a secure and fast manner.
