Description from the seller
Original edition of the reference translation provided by La Geneste of the History of Don Pablo of Segovia by Francisco de Quevedo. Published in Rouen in 1641. Rare.
Bound in full brown calf, with a spine featuring raised bands highlighted with gold lines and decorated with the title in gold lettering, red speckled edges. The binding has been extensively restored (see photos for spine and covers). Wear on the edges, corners, and raised bands. The work is quite solid. The interior is generally well preserved, with slightly yellowed paper and some scattered foxing without severity. In good condition.
The author of this joyful work was one of the three great geniuses of Spain's beautiful literary century: he had only Cervantes and Calderon as rivals. [...] Lope de Vega proclaimed him 'the miracle of nature, the ornament of the century, the first of poets, the most learned of scholars, and the prince of lyric poets in the absence of Apollo.'
Author: Francisco de Quevedo / de La Geneste
Buscon the Adventurer, a mischievous story written in Spanish by Dom Francisco de Quévédo, Spanish Knight. Together with the Letters of the Knight of Spain.
In Rouen, at Jacques Besongne's, 1641.
1845, in 12 (16 x 10 cm); 442 pages
