Description from the seller
By Frits Pieters (artist/restorer)
Frits Pieters (1915-2002) showed an artistic flair from a young age, but his father believed it was better for him to first pursue a career as a house painter. He gained his knowledge of old painting techniques at the academy in Antwerp, through numerous visits to museums both domestically and abroad, and from the many art books he owned or borrowed from libraries. He was one of the best restorers in the Netherlands at that time. The former director of the Frans Hals Museum could not believe that Frits Pieters had restored a painting by El Greco. The Haarlem artist ensured that his classical work was indistinguishable from the original.
The painting is very beautifully framed, and the work on the panel is completely smoothly finished.
Shipped very well packaged.
