Abel Lauvray (1870–1950)
The poetry of the banks of the Seine, a direct heir of Impressionism.
Close to Claude Monet, whom he has known since childhood in Vétheuil, Abel Lauvray develops a body of work deeply marked by light and the changing atmospheres of the Seine valley. A highly sensitive post-impressionist painter, he created more than 1,500 paintings where calm, harmony, and subtle chromaticity predominate.
Its landscapes – from Vétheuil to Mantes-la-Jolie, but also from Touraine, Provence, or Villeneuve-lès-Avignon – enchant with their gentleness and sincerity. Lauvray excels in the art of capturing the moment: a reflection on the water, a morning mist, a moving sky. This ability to seize the light, without ever imitating Monet, gives his work a strong and sought-after identity.
Today, Abel Lauvray's paintings are increasingly attracting the interest of collectors, captivated by the quality of his touch, the rarity of preserved works, and the historical proximity to the Impressionist masters. A Lauvray painting adds a note of serenity and authenticity to any collection, while also fitting into a major artistic tradition of French landscape painting.
