The Memoirs serving as a history of Malta, published in 1741 by Abbé Prévost, are in fact the adventure novel titled The Youth of the Commander, or *Histoire de la jeunesse du commandeur de ***,* a picaresque and maritime story about the adventures of a young nobleman, including kidnappings, pirates, and love affairs, with Malta as the main setting and anchoring point of his exploits. It is considered a less well-known but significant work within his oeuvre.
