Original edition printed in Avignon of this interesting 18th-century botanical horticultural treatise dedicated to the cultivation of carnations, adorned with three folding plates at the end of the volume. The author, Jean-Paul de Rome d’Ardène (1690-1769), a renowned Provençal botanist, provides a detailed study of the different species of carnations, their varieties, qualities, and cultivation.
Includes a dedicatory epistle to Monsieur D'Ardene, Priest of the Oratory, and a section on cited authors and works.
Binding: Paperback, as published, with period-style dust jacket, untrimmed.
CONDITION: Corners bumped, small marginal tears on the cover, spine slightly fragile. Interior fresh, paper slightly yellowed, with some scattered foxing. Very beautiful copy in original condition. Very rare.
