Description from the seller

Curious volume reproducing the Magnier edition (1888) of 'Pauvre Pierrot' illustrated by Adolphe Léon Willette. This album consists of 4 pages of typewritten text reproducing the preface by Paul Arène, which was published in the literary journal 'Le Pierrot' (first year - no. 18 - November 2, 1888); followed by 40 engraved plates taken from the 1888 publication, including 20 illustration plates, each preceded by a leaf of text illustrated by Adolphe Willette. The plates are secured in the corners with supports. The first illustrated cover by the artist has also been preserved.

On a joint, on a free sheet (25.5 x 20.5 cm), an original humorous drawing executed in ink, highlighted in colors, hand-signed by Willette, accompanied by the following note: 'Marie-Thérèse at the amusement park // Oh godfather, if I fell on the porcupines...'

Album bound in marbled half-basane, with a spine divided into sections, gold-embossed title, author, fillets, and roulettes.
