Description from the seller
Very beautiful edition of this series of new illustrated works with twenty original etchings by Tigrane Polat.
Limited edition of 151 numbered copies. This one is among the 100 copies on Rives vellum containing the etchings in their final state (no. 146).
Kept in a high-quality binding in full morocco leather, vert-de-gris in color, with a rounded spine decorated with the title in gold lettering, gilt top. A fine, uncut copy in very good condition. The spine is slightly rubbed and there are minor scuffs on the corners. Interior impeccable.
Henri Duvernois, in a letter addressed to René Boylesve shortly after its publication, praised the work as a 'form of rare perfection' and a 'thought with an ironic and original twist,' even though Boylesve had not initially intended to compile these stories into a single volume when they were written.
Twenty-second work produced by the Société nouvelle des Editions d'art Devambrez, under the artistic direction of Edouard Chimot.
Tigrane Polat (or Polad), born on March 23, 1874, in Alexandria, and died on February 17, 1950, in Charpont, was a French-Egyptian painter, engraver, and illustrator of Armenian origin. Renowned for his fine line work, he illustrated nearly twenty bibliophile works, thanks to collectors like Henri Vever and the Société de Saint-Eloy.
