Description from the seller
Original edition of the French translation and first print run of Eisen's delicate figures, engraved by Baquoy: 5 hors texte and 4 charming figurative banners.
Opens with the explanation of the figures and the translator's preface. Eisen's illustration is particularly successful.
Copy bound in a lovely 19th-century full red morocco binding, with covers featuring the design of 18th-century Duseuil bindings. The spine with raised bands decorated with a rich gold and compartmentalized design. The three edges gilded.
Lyrical poetry about the four parts of the day—morning, noon, evening, and night—in prose by Justus Friedrich Wilhelm Zachariae (1726-1777), a German writer and composer.
Son of François Eisen, Charles had no master other than his father. He gained the favor of Madame de Pompadour, for whom he was a drawing teacher. Thus, he became the king's painter and draftsman. Best known for his drawings illustrating literary works, these are always excellent in their grace and variety. (in Bénézit IV, p. 132).
Zacharie (Justus Friedrich Wilhelm) - Iron (Charles, engravings by).
