Description from the seller

Mock collection dedicated to the work of caricaturist Charles Léandre, compiled by Dr. Eugène Olivier (1881-1964), bibliophile, heraldist, with his bookplate on the front pastedown. Composed of numerous illustrations taken from various magazines of the period and two photogravures, including a portrait of the author. Most are in two states, the first on ordinary paper, the second on glossy paper; other illustrations are mounted on thick paper. The entire is bound on tabs.
Some boards are also hand-labeled.

A fine copy bound in a solid half-calf red morocco, with a spine decorated with gold tooling and the author's name in gilt letters. The leather is slightly rubbed, especially on the edges and the spine. The edges are rubbed.
Interior in good condition, yellowed edition paper, rare pinholes.

Important iconography on the work of Charles Léandre (1862-1934). French painter, caricaturist, and lithographer. He became famous for his humorous drawings published in newspapers like Le Rire. Léandre excelled in political and social caricature of the Belle Époque. He also exhibited portraits and genre scenes at the Salon.

Provenance: Ex-libris of Dr. Eugène Olivier (1881-1964), bibliophile, heraldist, co-author of the 'Manual of the French Armorial Bindings', known as 'L'Olivier', and Joël Prat.
