The Franciscan and Bishop of Aquino, Robertus Caracciolus (1425-1495), was one of the great preachers of the 15th century.

First edition of the popular sermon collection of that time.
By the end of 1490 alone, nine incunabula editions had appeared.

Extremely rare first edition of this incunable printed in Naples with sermons praising the saints.
In Germany, this edition has been recorded in only one library; worldwide, it is found in a total of only 54 libraries. In pristine condition with empty initial spaces.

Gothic type, 2 columns, 50 lines. Untouched, with empty initial spaces. Beautifully wide-margin.
Sheet: 22 x 16 cm; Text: 15.5 x 11.5 cm.

3 leaves of the flyleaf (somewhat younger), 6 leaves of the preface/tabla, 218 leaves, 3 leaves of the flyleaf (somewhat younger, the last leaf on the back with handwriting from the 16th/17th century).
Together 224. Complete incunable.
The seventh sheet (a1) and the last sheet (z4) are white.
Law formula: (6), a-sf8, s-z8, A-B8, C6, D4.
According to the information in the incunable catalog of the block books, the blank leaf page 7 is listed as 'a1'. The foliation in the book incorrectly begins only after this blank leaf and is therefore counted from a1 to a7.

Contemporary leather binding over solid wood covers. Spine renewed – blind-embossed ornamentation and gold-embossed title. Cover in newer canvas case. Closures missing, closure fittings present in fragments. The front of the book block bears an old title inscription in brown ink. Good condition. The covers are rubbed and stained, edges and corners bumped. Spine renewed, new endbands.
Small Folio: 23 x 17 x 6 cm.

Good, extremely fresh and untouched condition. Strong impression, firm rag paper. Clean copy, only partially lightly flecked and finger-marked. First page on the blank front side with an old stamp and slight ink stain. Occasionally contemporary marginalia. Good and complete copy with the original cut.
