Very beautiful illustrated edition of Stendhal's story adorned with 19 color compositions by Malassis, engraved on copper by Delzers and Feltesse: 17 outside the text and 2 in the text.

Limited edition of 200 copies. This one, one of 29 copies on Annam, additionally includes a sanguine state and a blue state. Our copy is enriched with two original drawings by Edmond Malassis, made on tracing paper in graphite, with a mat (unsigned).

Pages, with a flap cover and double cardboard casing (case and folder), with the title label glued to the back of the folder.
In very good condition, scuffs on the edges of the case. Interior is clean and pristine, impeccable. A fine specimen.

Edmond Malassis, born on December 14, 1874, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, the city where he died on September 3, 1944, at his home in the 7th arrondissement, was a French painter and illustrator. He was a student of Gustave Moreau.
