Description from the seller

Beautiful edition for bibliophiles of this great classic of literature, remarkably illustrated with 73 original lithographs by the Valencian painter Lucien Jonas (1880-1947), printed by Edmond Desjobert, some of which are enhanced with color.

Limited to only 170 copies, the first 150, printed on Rives paper and reserved for members of the Society, are numbered from 1 to 150, while the remaining are numbered from CLI to CLXX.

Nominative copy (non-numbered), printed on Rives, specifically for Monsieur Marcel Masure. It is supplemented with the following documents:
a series in black of lithographs
- Two menus for the 'Eclectiques du livre' dinner on January 26, 1933, illustrated with an original lithograph by Lucien Jonas.
- a superb original pencil drawing by Louis Jonas, on Japanese paper, for a greeting card, signed by Desjobert with the note 'Happy New Year 1933'; and a message signed by the artist 'For King Desjobert...'.

Paperback, with a flap cover, printed and illustrated. Cardboard sleeve, without the case. Title piece on the back of the sleeve.

Condition: Volume and series in very good condition. Tears at the edges of the cover.

Born in Anzin in northern France, Lucien Jonas's work has spanned the major upheavals of the 20th century. While he is mainly known as a war painter, he was also an official painter of the Navy from 1916, bringing a unique historical and human sensitivity to maritime art. His work, displayed in many museums in France and abroad (notably in New York), remains a valuable testament to popular life, the memory of conflicts, and French maritime culture.

Signed; Lucien Jonas & Edmond Desjobert / Alphonse Daudet
L’Arlesienne. Play in three acts and five tableaux with symphonies and choruses by G. Bizet.
(Paris), Les Éclectiques du Livre, 1931
In-4 (33 x 25.5 cm); 212 pages. 2f. + suite, 2 menus and an original drawing.
