Description from the seller
Fictitious collection from the 18th century consisting of 8 documents related to the administration of Louis XVI's finance minister and controller general, Charles-Alexandre de Calonne (1734-1802).
Notably, there are pieces on the case of the County of Sancère that made a significant impact at the time.
The County of Sancerre, belonging to the Bourbon-Condé family, was sold to Baron d'Espagnac in 1777 for 1.4 million pounds. Espagnac, involved in financial scandals, resold it to Louis XVI in 1785 for 500,000 pounds—while also receiving, quite advantageously through exchange, some marquisates and domains located in the Blésois or Lorraine. In 1791, the National Assembly, rightly considering the exchange 'monstrous,' decreed the revocation of the contract.
