Description from the seller

Original edition of this beautiful and rare work on the family of Mailly. Of noble knightly origin (1050), subdivided at the end of the 15th century into several branches, the family of Mailly is one of the oldest and most illustrious in Picardy.
This work was printed on fine paper on strong laid vellum at the expense of the house of Mailly and distributed by its care.
It is illustrated with an engraved title-frontispiece, two large unfolding genealogical trees, five heraldic plates, eight title frames, thirteen title vignettes adorned with heraldic arms, and fifteen coats of arms.

Very beautiful and large unfolding family tree chart (62.5 x 87 cm), printed in red and black on sturdy paper. Luxurious publication, well printed on vellum.

A fine bound copy. Full havana calf marbled from the period. Spine with raised bands decorated with fleur-de-lis and gilt panels. Title piece. Gilt edges.

Condition: split morsels, missing parts on the caps, worn corners (solid volume). Slightly yellowed paper, rare and fine foxing, light angular water stains on some pages, more visible on the last 15 pages of the volume. Tear without loss on the margin of the large fold-out plate (see photos). Overall good condition.

Provenance: three heraldic ex-libris mounted back-to-back: 'Société héraldique'; 'Bibliothèque Tillette de Clermont-Tonnerre'; 'Ex-libris of Bonnault'.
