Description from the seller

Very beautiful 19th-century illustrated edition with 110 compositions by Edouard Toudouze, engraved in black in-text.

Sample of a choice made in a charming half-leather binding in orange, with double fillets along the boards, a rounded spine decorated with a title piece and two crossed swords with blades in ebony leather, gilded initials and gilded head. The illustrated covers are preserved (without the spine).

Condition: Some discreet stains on the back, and faint scuffs on the crowns. Interior in excellent condition, rare foxing. A fine example.

Chronicle of the reign of Charles IX is a historical novel by Prosper Mérimée, published in 1829. In 1572, during a short period of peace during the wars of religion, Bernard de Mergy, a young Protestant nobleman, goes to Paris to place himself under Coligny's orders.
