Description from the seller
Splendid art edition decorated by Charles Martin, featuring 16 charming original color etchings, including 15 full-page illustrations and a chapter header.
Preserved in a magnificent binding by René Kieffer in full embossed calf leather, with four gold-stamped floral motifs at the corners of the covers, a smooth spine decorated with gold lines and the title, and a gilded head. Covers and spine preserved, with the first illustrated with a rose.
Limited edition of 291 copies, this one being number 89 on Arches vellum paper (second paper after 46 on Japanese paper), numbered from 47 to 91.
Enriched copy of the very beautiful black suite with remarks. Not justified suite, rare.
Charles Martin's style, with a delicate touch, excels in etching techniques.
The stencil is enhanced with a typographic line. Influenced by cubism, his style becomes streamlined.
and is characterized by a precise, effective, and joyful trait.
We owe to Charles Martin the portrait of the painter André Dignimont that can be found in
Book frontispiece dedicated to the latter in 1929. It also illustrates The Heroic Illusion.
by Tito Bassi in 1925, by Henri de Régnier at La Roseraie, then the Fables of La Fontaine in two parts.
Volumes at the Librairie de France.
Condition: In very good condition. Beautiful Kieffer piece, hats and bits slightly rubbed. Interior impeccable. Lovely example.
Author: Henri de Régnier; Charles Martin
