Original posthumous edition of this collection of articles by the Orientalist painter-writer Gustave Guillaumet (1840-1887).
The work is illustrated with twelve etchings by Guillaumet, Courtry, Le Rat, Géry-Richard, Mullet, and Toussaint, six heliogravures by Dujardin, and 128 engravings after the paintings, drawings, and sketches by Guillaumet. (Tailliart, no. 775)

Rare artist's copy (No. 31/100) featuring three states of the 12 etchings & 6 heliogravures outside the text, including one state with the letter, one on China paper, and one in bistre.

Full brown morocco binding, spine decorated with gilded, mosaic-like panels and oriental-style gilding. Covers preserved, without the spine.

Condition: wear on the caps, jaws, and cuts, pierced corners. The mosaic is partially faded on the back. Scattered browning. A stain at the margin of a board and its double state (see photos). Condition is good.
