First edition of the 20 volumes published between 1845 and 1862 of the famous work by Adolphe Thiers (1797-1877) on the Consulate and the Empire. Carefully printed on good quality paper. Decorated with 7 beautiful engravings (4 in volume 7 and 3 in volume 16).
Decorative copy, from the period, bound in green half-leather. Spine with raised bands decorated with gilded fleurs-de-lis and the title in gilt letters.
Condition: Solid volumes, slightly rubbed leather and a somewhat sun-damaged spine. Some marks on the covers, browning inside, several pages darkened. The first page of each volume shows stains or restoration (ex-libris with transparent stamp). Condition is fair.
