Description from the seller
Offered: Antique letter scale / postal scale – brass – DEPO – circa early 20th century
Very decorative antique letter scale made of brass, with a richly decorated foot featuring acanthus leaves and ornate embellishments. This vertical letter scale is an elegant desk object from the early 20th century.
The scale is marked 'DEPO', which stands for depositato (deposited model). This indicates a registered design, often used by German (possibly Jakob Maul) and Central European scales from this period. The scale division from 0 to 100 grams is clearly readable, and the mechanical construction is of a classic and widely used type. The beautifully cast foot with deep relief decoration makes this scale not only functional but also highly suitable as a decorative collectible for a desk or display cabinet. The brass finish shows a beautiful, authentic patina, fitting the age of the object.
Details:
• Type: mechanical letter scale / mail scale
Material: brass
Marketing: DEPO
Weighing range: 0 to 100 grams.
• Dating: beginning of the 20th century
Standing model with a richly decorated foot with acanthus leaves.
A beautiful and characterful antique postal scale, interesting for collectors of measuring instruments, office antiques, or early German industrial design.
The little scale is in very good condition for its age and shows minimal signs of use. PLEASE NOTE: the weight does not belong to the auction.
