Description from the seller

Original French poster from World War I titled The Serbian Day, created in 1916 by Charles Fouqueray, a recognized illustrator and painter known for his military and patriotic scenes.
This poster commemorates June 25, 1916, the date of Serbian Day organized in France in support of Serbia, an ally during the Great War, and references the historic Battle of Kossovo, a founding symbol of Serbian identity.

115 x 80 cms.

The composition, highly expressive, depicts Serbian soldiers and civilians in a dramatic scene of exodus and combat, rendered in a powerful and dynamic style characteristic of Fouqueray.
Color lithograph printed by Devambez (Paris), a leading art publisher and printer at the beginning of the 20th century.
Old copy showing original creases, creases, stains, small missing parts, and tears along the edges, without significant damage to the image or text. Colors are well preserved, and the signature is legible.
Beautiful historic poster, sought after for its role in World War I propaganda and for Charles Fouqueray's work.
