Description from the seller

Imperial Japanese 19th-century perfume burner, square shape, very uncommon, from the Meiji period (1868-1912). Decorated with finely painted figures in traditional costumes, highlighted with gold. On one side, a geisha and samurais; on the second side, a mythical animal; on the third side, a seaside village; and on the fourth side, a marine landscape with figures on a boat. The top is richly decorated with geometric patterns. The pierced lid has undergone minor restoration that is barely visible from the outside.
