Antique bossed hand gong from Indonesia, made of bronze or brass, dating to ca. 1880–1920, with a diameter of about 22 cm and a weight of around 1 kg, in good antique condition with no breaks or cracks.
Description from the seller
Description – Antique bossed gong (not a collection scale)
Antique bossed gong / hand gong – bronze / brass – circa 1880–1920 – Ø 22 cm
This object is not a collection plate, but an authentic small bossed gong (handgong). This is clearly recognizable by the raised central knob (boss), the concentric hand-hammered surface, and the mounting provision on the edge, allowing the gong to resonate freely during use.
Such gongs were traditionally used as signal, temple, or ritual gongs, both in religious contexts and in household or ceremonial environments. The central boss provides a clear, focused sound in contrast to flat cymbals.
Materials & Techniques
Hand-hammered bronze or pewter.
Visible hammer structure in concentric rings.
Beautiful natural oxidation and warm patina, completely in line with age.
Age (consciously towards the oldest realistic estimate)
het type bossed gong
the manual hammer technique
the shape of the edge and mounting
the natural patina
Dating: circa 1880–1920 (late 19th – very early 20th century)
This is a conservative but mature antique dating, not a modern decorative object.
Dimensions
Diameter: approximately 22 cm
state
Good antique condition with normal signs of use and age.
No cracks or tears. Patina not polished or artificially disturbed.
