About the Author
Galateia Kazantzakis (née Galateia Alexiou, 1884–1962) was a pioneering Greek novelist, playwright, poet, journalist, and political thinker. A key female voice of Greek Modernism, her work engaged with social justice, feminism, and ideological transformation in early 20th-century Greece. Though long overshadowed by her husband Nikos Kazantzakis, her literary importance has been increasingly acknowledged in recent scholarship.
Her dramatic works, including those in this volume, reveal her commitment to social realism and psychological depth, and stand among the earliest modernist theatrical experiments in Greece.
Provenance Note
The dedication to Alexandros Dragoumis, a leading intellectual and architectural modernist, gives this copy outstanding provenance and places it firmly within the elite cultural networks of interwar Athens.
