Ernst Haeckel, Anthropogenie oder Entwickelungsgeschichte des Menschen, a two‑volume 1910 edition in German with half‑leather bindings, Verlag von Wilhelm Engelmann, Leipzig, 1422 pages, 24.5 × 18 cm, illustrated edition, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Haeckel, Ernst
Anthropogeny or the evolutionary history of humans. Germ and lineage history.
First part: Germ history or ontogeny (approx. 992 pages).
Second part: Tribal history or phylogeny (approx. 430 pages).
Sixth revised edition. With a total of 60 plates, 512 text figures, and 60 schematic tables.
Leipzig: Verlag von Wilhelm Engelmann, 1910.
Two volumes (approximately 24.5 × 18 cm). Contemporary half-leather bindings with gold-embossed spine titles, marbled covers, and decorative cut patterns. Both volumes are in the original cardboard covers, which are heavily rubbed and partially torn.
Important, significantly expanded edition of Haeckel's famous main work on human development and genealogy.
The 6th edition (1910) is the last major version revised during Haeckel's lifetime—and is considered the most mature and complete version of this work.
With the iconic tables of vertebrate embryos – milestones of scientific illustration and symbol figures of evolutionary biology.
With a period-typical bookplate 'Rudolf Türck' (probably of a doctor or natural scientist, circa 1920–30) on the front endpapers. Expressive graphic motif with a snake and a cup – a decorative provenance mark.
state
Very well-preserved, clean examples. Half leather bindings are tight and clean, with only minimal signs of use. The interior is fresh, nearly stain-free, with pages complete and in strong print. The slipcase is heavily rubbed and has cracks, but is present – rarely in such completeness.
