Watson in his introduction emphasizes his goal of simplifying the botanical descriptions while maintaining ample cultural notes. It contributed to the growing hobby of amateur orchid growing.

Scarce colourful copy of ‘Orchids. Their Culture and Management with Descriptions of all the Kinds in General Cultivation’. Illustrated with 15 Coloured Plates including tissue-guarded coloured frontispiece, 6 folding plates, and 38 monochrome plates. Published by L. Upcott Gill, London. 1890s. Publishers’ original cream, gold and black boards, with gilt lettering and illustrations of Orchids on upper board and spine. Top page edges gilt

Condition
The book is beautifully designed and illustrated. External covers in nice shape, with light wear to corners, and edges, and minor rubbings to head and foot of spine. Internally; the book is in very good condition. Inner hinges are very good, and pages are tightly held at gutters. Text is fresh, and pages are clean, with light foxing to the margin of some pages. All colour plates and fold-outs are present and in nice condition (Please see pictures).
