【Product details】

This refined cast copper vase dates from the early Showa period and features delicate silver wire inlay forming elegant, looping patterns across its smooth surface. The restrained decoration highlights the balance between sculptural form and precise metalwork, reflecting the refined aesthetics of Japanese decorative arts. An artist’s mark is present on the underside.

The vase was created by Shibata Isami (柴田伊佐美)(art name: Bishaku), a highly respected metal artisan from Takaoka. Born in 1908, he specialised in copperware and chōkin (metal carving and engraving). After studying metal engraving techniques in Tokyo, he returned to Takaoka, where he mastered Kaga zōgan inlay techniques and developed a distinctive flat inlay style. He later became recognised as a leading figure in this tradition and was designated a Preserver of Traditional Craft Techniques by the city of Takaoka in 1973. His work represents the lineage and technical refinement of Takaoka metal craftsmanship.

The vase shows natural signs of age, including minor scuffs, slight rust, and traces of use. The interior paint has areas of peeling and flaking. Overall, it remains in fair to good used condition. Please refer to the photos for details.
