Description from the seller
Mirror of the honor of the highest imperial and royal house of Austria
Detailed historical record of the same / and those cases of selection, marriage, inheritance, and luck.....
They are offering a print published in Nuremberg by the publisher Michael and Johann Fridrich Endter, from the year 1668. Bound in a period wooden cover binding with blind-embossed pigskin cover and 1 (of 2) original book covers.
Collation: Copper title by Ph. Kilian after Jonas Arnold, 17 pages, 1416 sheets, 17 pages, with approximately 200 (10 full-page) copper plates, 2 double-page heraldic copper plates, 8 engraved portrait plates by Kilian.
First edition of Birkens's treatment of the previously unpublished history work of Fuggers. A magnificently illustrated Baroque work, which, under the strict censorship of the client Leopold I, became a hymn of praise to the House of Habsburg. The text copperplates depict coats of arms, maps, views, episodes from history, portraits, coins, etc. pp. 524ff.: 'Origin of the printing house' with a depiction of an offizin.
CONDITION: Good copy with more pronounced signs of use. Front endpapers, half-title, copperplate title, and a folded coat of arms panel are loose and heavily frayed (the engraved copperplate title is therefore only partially preserved), as well as at the end the last page with printing errors and the rear endpaper with a large tear in the lower corner. Slightly browned and somewhat stained in places, with occasional tears and losses of text. The binding is rubbed and partly bumped, the top clasp is missing. The back cover lining has a tiny defect at the top, and the top corners are split.
