Description from the seller

Original edition of the French translation of Stefan Zweig's excellent biography of Marie-Antoinette.

Numbered copy of the print, limited to 548 copies, this one being number 214 on Vélin de Monfourat.

Example of a choice made in a luxury binding in half-navy blue morocco with corner protectors, four spine nerves, gilt title and author. Gilt head. Covers preserved, without the spine.

Condition: good, minor flaws, spine worn, rare scuffs. Interior fresh, faint trace of a previous sender erased on the half-title, micro-tears at the margin of pages 497-498.

An excellent biography of Marie-Antoinette, brilliant and well-researched, in which Zweig perfectly analyzes the psychology of her character. In this captivating account of the end of an era and an extraordinary life, we also understand the chain of events that led to a misjudgment of situations and to the making of fatal decisions.

Author: Stefan Zweig
Title: Marie-Antoinette. Translated from German by Alzir Hella.
Publisher: Paris, Editions B. Grasset. 1933
In-8, 21 x 14 cm, 510 pages.
