Eclipse, a steel sculpture by Javi Villarroel Seoane (Spain), 29 × 23 × 14 cm, created in 2025, exclusive and unique edition as the final piece of a series, hand-signed with a certificate of authenticity, in excellent condition, contemporary.
Description from the seller
To start the year, we are pleased to present Eclipse, the final piece in a series of diverse works conceived in Toledo. It has been forged in a coal forge, a space where centuries-old techniques are preserved in almost disuse. To create this series of sculptures, I traveled more than 1,000 km. In this way, we present a sculpture made with exclusive techniques, specially created for Catawiki.
The sculpture is born from merging the artisanal tradition of artistic forging with contemporary art, establishing a dialogue between the memory of fire and modern design.
The sculpture, of an abstract and minimalist nature, explores movement and stillness, the visible and the hidden. Its fluid form, with a brass effect finish achieved through an unusual and atypical technique, captures light and creates reflections that seem to turn on themselves, evoking a perpetual cycle, a presence that never ceases.
Supported on a textured black base with beveled edges, the work establishes an intense contrast with the warmth of the surface, emphasizing its sculptural and minimalist presence.
An eclipse is a suspended moment between light and shadow, a perpetual state of transformation where boundaries dissolve and form becomes experience, inviting the viewer to perceive both continuity and movement as well as the power of forging.

More than steel, more than art
Javi Villarroel Seoane is a contemporary sculptor who transforms his ideas into a living testimony of creativity. From his studio in Bilbao, Spain, he develops sculptures with metal, a material he masters with skill and that allows him to create various artistic avenues.
Their career includes numerous exhibitions at the national level, and their pieces are part of collections spread across several countries in Europe, the United Kingdom, and Asia, reflecting the international projection of their work.
His solid training and 20 years of experience support the technical quality of his sculptures. He holds degrees in welding teaching, mechanical manufacturing design, industrial boiler-making, artistic forging, sculpture, and hot sculpture carving. His constant drive for self-improvement led him to become a diver welder, an experience that broadened his knowledge from a unique and highly specialized perspective.
Alongside his creative work, Javi has made significant contributions to professional training in his field. He has taught hundreds of welders through programs of the Basque Government, among others, and has conducted courses in artistic welding, sharing his vision, his technique, and his deep respect and love for the craft and metal.
In addition to being recognized as a prominent artist of the Basque Country, in 2025, the Bilbao City Council acknowledged his career and entrepreneurial spirit by awarding him an Entrepreneurship Award, an honor that highlights his commitment to art and his contribution to the cultural and educational landscape of the city. A second volume of current Basque sculpture, in which he is featured, has recently been published.
His/Her work is featured in the second volume of contemporary Basque sculpture, recently published.
With a steadfast vocation and ongoing artistic research, Javi continues shaping a unique journey that transcends borders and positions him as an essential figure in contemporary metal art.
