AUTODIDACT
My works are heavily inspired by the aesthetics of the 1950s and 1960s—a time of new beginnings, clear forms, vibrant colors, and iconic imagery. I am particularly fascinated by motifs from old publications and magazines of that era. They tell stories that have not lost their power and radiance to this day. Using acrylic on canvas and collage techniques, I create compositions that evoke advertising, fashion, cinema, and everyday culture of the post-war period. I incorporate authentic images from that time, rearranging and placing them in a modern context. This results in images that capture retro charm and the spirit of the times while also developing a unique, timeless statement. For me, Pop Art is not just a style but an attitude: it allows me to elevate everyday images to art, connect nostalgia with the present, and express emotions in a clear, vibrant way. Each of my works is a small journey into the past—and at the same time, a statement in the present. I live and work in the Cologne area and am delighted when my art inspires, touches, and evokes memories in people.
With numerous exhibitions both domestically and abroad, Holger Zimmermann has established an international reputation. His works have been showcased in renowned galleries and art institutions and have received a great response from both industry professionals and collectors.
The artist's works are part of major private and public art collections. This presence underscores the relevance of his work and the lasting impact of his artistic practice.
Through continuous development and a clear, distinctive style, the artist holds a firm position in contemporary art.
