Description from the seller

Rare luxury edition, produced by the National Printing Office and printed in limited quantities, of the works of Saint-Evremond.
Unique edition of 88 numbered copies on Vidalon vellum paper, formed by L’Imprimerie Nationale, set in Romain du Roi type size 18, known as petit Parangon Alexandre, used for the first time for this work. (No. 23)

Presentation by John Hayward, translated by Roland de Margerie.

Bound, full parchment Bradel binding, first cover illustrated with a gilded crest of Charles Le Marquetel de Saint-Denis, Lord of Saint-Evremond, long spine with gilded author and volume titles, covers made of very beautiful combed paper with a title label in the center, preserved, uncut, binding signed by Bellevallée.

Condition: excellent, with rare traces of dirt on the surfaces. Impeccable interiors. A very beautiful specimen.

Charles de Saint-Evremond, French moralist and critic, 1616-1703, marks a total independence of mind in opposition to the literary or philosophical ideal of his century. A libertine, he knew how to live happily in the balance of reason and heart (Van Thieghem III-3465).
