Berlin: Blaetter fuer die Kunst, 1902. 181, [1] pages. 20cm x 14.5cm. Newer custom brown marbled hardcover binding with a gilt lettered label on the spine. Limited edition of 303 copies of this collection of selected works by German poets, such as Friedrich Schiller, Friedrich Hölderlin, Heinrich Heine, Novalis, Clemens Brentano among others. Beautifully illustrated with an engraved title vignette, an engraved frontispiece, a preface illustration, and an engraved colophon graphic, and decorated throughout with text frames and engraved initials, all done by Melchior Lechter. Printed in black and blue on laid paper.
Only minimal rubbing, bumping, and wear to the boards and spine. The original cover page has a small crease in the lower outer corner. Pen markings on the verso of the original cover page, and Ex Libris stamp on the back of the title page. Some water staining to the top of the pages and some cockling throughout. Some small creases to the edges of the pages throughout. Only very little browning and spotting throughout. The text and illustrations are clear, and the binding is solid. Overall, an attractive copy in very good- condition.
